Easy, quick and flavorful sauce perfect with meat, seafood or vegetable dishes.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ¼ cup flour
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 2 ½ tablespoons Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 teaspoons parmesan cheese grated
DIRECTIONS
- In a sauce pan melt butter over medium heat.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute until blended.
- Pour ¼ cup of milk and whisk for about 2 minutes until flour mixture is blended.
- Pour remaining milk stirring constantly.
- Add mustard.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Add cheese and continue stirring. Cook until it thickens.
- Turn off heat and transfer right away in a sauce dish. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
NOTES
- You can really use any cheese you prefer. Recently I had this in a restaurant and they used Gruyère. Gruyère is a hard, yellow Swiss cheese made from cow's milk, known for its nutty, rich, and creamy flavor.
- Throw some carmelized onions into your sauce to give it that extra elegance.
