Liar's Uno is a version of Uno where players can lie about the cards they play, with liar cards being played face down and announced with a plausible value. Challenges determine truthfulness: if caught lying, the player draws a penalty card; if truthful, the challenger draws a penalty card. The game also introduces new action cards like Seven Swap (trade hands with another player) and Zero Pass (pass your hand to the next player).
Core gameplay

Deal cards: Start with seven cards per player, place the rest face down to form a draw pile, and turn the top card face up to start the discard pile.

Turn order: Play moves clockwise to the left of the dealer initially.

Playing cards:

  • Play a card that matches the color, number, or symbol of the top discard card.
  • Liar cards (identified by a white circle) are played face down. You must announce what the card is (e.g., "Red 5"), and it must be a plausible play based on the discard pile.
  • If you cannot play a card, you must draw one from the draw pile. You may play the drawn card if it matches; otherwise, it goes into your hand.

Challenging:

  • Any player can challenge a face-down liar card before the next turn begins.
  • If the challenge is successful (the player was lying), the player who played the card takes it back and draws a penalty card.
  • If the challenge fails (the player was truthful), the challenger draws a penalty card.
  • Playing a regular card as a liar card is illegal. If caught, the player takes the card back and draws six penalty cards.

Special action cards:

  • Seven Swap: Play a seven to swap your hand with another player of your choice.
  • Zero Pass: Play a zero to pass your hand to the next player in the current direction of play.
  • Wild Draw Four: This can be played at any time, and the next player must draw four cards and lose their turn. A lie played with a Wild Draw Four can still be challenged.
  • Wild Liars Challenge: This is a special wild card played face up.
    • The player names a color.
    • Every other player places a card face down and states its value (if it matches the color).
    • The player who played the Wild Liars Challenge can then challenge any player.
    • If a challenged card is a lie, that player draws a penalty card.
    • If a challenged card is true, that player and all unchallenged players place their face-down cards face up under the Wild Liars Challenge card.
    • The player who played the Wild Liars Challenge chooses the color to resume play.

Winning the game:

  • The first player to have one card left must yell "Uno!".
  • Forgetting to say "Uno" results in a two-card penalty if caught.
  • The first player to empty their hand wins the round.

Wild Liar’s Challenge

The Wild Liar’s Challenge card is wild so you can play it at any time. Unlike the rest of the Action Cards, you will always play these cards face up.

Wild Liar's Challenge card

When you play the card you will choose a color. All of the other players have to choose a card from their hand that matches the color and places it face down in front of themselves. They will tell the players what card they played face down. If you don’t have a card of the chosen color, you can choose any card from your hand and lie about what it is. You have to claim it is a card of the color chosen by the player though.

Catching a liar with a Wild Liar's Challenge card

The player who played the Wild Liar’s Challenge card thinks the player on the left was lying about playing a yellow card. They were right since they tried to play a red one. The player on the left takes back their red one, and has to draw another card.

The current player can keep challenging players until they either challenge a player that was telling the truth or they have challenged all of the players. When this happens, any players that were telling the truth or weren’t challenged get to play the card they placed face down on the table. Place each of these cards below the Wild Liar’s Challenge card.

Final results from a Wild Liar's Challenge card

The player who played the Wild Liar’s Challenge card caught two players lying (red one, green two). Those two players take back their cards and have to draw an additional card. The third player they chose was telling the truth (yellow eight). That player and the player that wasn’t challenged both get to discard the card they played beneath the Wild Liar’s Challenge card.

The Discard Pile becomes the color you chose after playing the card. Play then continues with the next player in turn order.

Should anyone get rid of the last card from their hand due to this card, they win the game. If multiple players go out at the same time due to the card, all of the players that go out share the victory.
