There's nothing quite like hush puppies straight out of the fryer. Justin Wilson's recipe is the perfect blend of cornmeal and spices, resulting in a crispy exterior and flavorful interior.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup of cornmeal
- 1/2 cup of flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of soda
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 3/4 to 1 cup of milk butter
- vegetable oil (for frying)
DIRECTIONS
- Combine all dry ingredients.
- Add egg, buttermilk and onions.
- Mix well.
- Drop in deep hot oil by spoonsful and brown on all sides.
