Italian Grandma Makes Pizza and Pizza Sauce
Italian Grandma Makes Pizza and Pizza Sauce
Watch this Italian Grandma make her dough and sauce from scratch. You'll be surprised to see how really basic the whole process is. Whether making the sauce or the pizza dough. You just need a little time for it to all come together. Traditional is not a 5 minute job.

Pizza Dough

  • 5 lbs Bread Flour (High Gluten)
  • 1 Package Active Dry Yeast  (1/4 oz)
  • 2 tbsp Salt
  • 8 cups warm Water (105-110 degrees F)
  • Vegetable Shortening (to grease pan)

Pizza Sauce

  • 2 qts Peeled Tomatoes
  • ½  chopped Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tsp Oregano (approx.)
  • Fresh Basil
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Pizza Topping

  • Sprinkle grated Pecorino Romano Cheese
  • Sprinkle Oregano
  • Drizzle Olive Oil
  • Then if desired, add Mozzarella, Sausage, Mushrooms, Pepperoni or anything else you like!

If you're house is like mine and kept cool at all times Grandma's tip comes in handy when letting the dough rest.  After sealing the bowl with plastic; wrap the towel in a couple blankets.  It'll build some heat and help the dough rise!
