Frying Pan Tower is an old U.S. Coast Guard light station located about 34 miles off the coast of North Carolina, out in the Atlantic Ocean. It was originally built in the early 1960s to warn ships about the shallow waters of Frying Pan Shoals, which are super dangerous for navigation.
It looks kind of like an oil rig — a big metal platform on stilts — and after it was decommissioned in the early 2000s, it was auctioned off to a private owner. Now it's basically a mix between a historic site and a really unique adventure destination. Volunteers help restore it, and people can visit to go fishing, diving, or just experience the insane views and isolation.
They even call it "the B&B at the end of the world" sometimes because you can actually stay there! 🌊🛟 It’s become a symbol of ocean conservation too. Pretty wild, right?
