What is a Xaphoon?
What is a Xaphoon?
The xaphoon is a chromatic keyless single-reed woodwind instrument. It has a closed cylindrical bore and a very slightly flared bell. The xaphoon has a full chromatic range of two octaves, and overblows at the twelfth like the clarinet.

The xaphoon's tone sounds like a clarinet or a saxophone, and is suitable for playing music in similar genres such as jazz or klezmer, although it has also been used to play music of other traditions. It uses a standard tenor saxophone reed.

Need a Xaphoon?  You can grab your own Maui Xaphoon Pocket Sax over on Amazon.  I have one myself and love it.  I purchased mine right after they were created so I've had it for several years.  You will also need some reeds for backup if you don't already have some.

Here are some handy fingering charts.
