Quick and Easy Holiday Fabric Baskets for Gifts, Table Decor and Souvenirs
Learn how to sew charming Christmas baskets from just a couple pieces of fabric — perfect for small gifts, table décor, or keepsake souvenirs. In this quick DIY you’ll get step-by-step instructions to whip up around 20 baskets in a single evening. Great for holidays, classroom gifts, or party favors. Ideal for beginners and scrap-fabric friendly.

Materials Needed

  • Two pieces of fabric (main fabric + lining or contrasting fabric) — size depending on basket size.
  • Sewing machine (or needle & thread if hand-sewing).
  • Scissors or rotary cutter + cutting mat (or fabric shears).
  • Measuring tape or ruler.
  • Pins or clips to hold fabric in place.
  • (Optional) Iron — to flatten seams for cleaner results.
  • (Optional) Coordinating thread.
  • (Optional) Embellishments (ribbon, twine, small ornaments) — if you want to jazz up the baskets for Christmas gifts or table decor.

You can make larger baskets as well.  Just use larger squares and make bigger handles.  Easily resizable. In this video she is using 12" squares.

Tips

  • This video uses 12" squares.
  • Fold in half; then fold in half again (quartered).
  • Measure and mark out a 4" corner (on the non-folded corner where all 4 corners meet freely).
  • Cut that 4" corner off.
  • When you unfold it you should now have a "plus sign" looking piece.
  • Cut out a piece of interfacing to match. It keeps the fabric from stretching. Adding structure and support to the fabric.
  • The handle is 1.5" x 8".
