These simple stewed puerto rican beans (habichuelas guisadas) and domplines (puerto rican fry bread) are super quick to make, but bursting with flavor! Ready in less than 30 minutes it’s the perfect weeknight meal.
INGREDIENTS
“Domplines” (arepas or tortas):
- 1.5 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup warm water
- Oil for frying
Habichuelas Guisadas (stewed beans):
- 1 cup of soaked beans ~or~ 1 drained can of either pinto or small red beans
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup chopped sausage (summer sausage, salchichón, or even bacon)
- 1/4 of a chopped onion
- 1 packet sazón (or 1 tsp of your own sazón)
- Salt to taste
- Chopped potatoes or squash
