How to Make Bananas Foster
How to Make Bananas Foster
Bananas foster is made by cooking sliced bananas and walnuts in a buttery rum sauce and serving it over vanilla ice cream.

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ⅔ cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 ½ tablespoons rum
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 3 bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise and crosswise
  • ¼ cup coarsely chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream

DIRECTIONS

  1. Melt butter in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, rum, vanilla, and cinnamon; bring to a low boil.
  2. Place bananas and walnuts in the pan. Cook until bananas have softened, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve at once over vanilla ice cream.

NOTES

  • Be sure to have everything ready and around the pan.  Making this goes by so quick you don't have time to grab and measure anything.  Have it ready when you start.
  • Technically you only need 4 ingredients to make this BUT the cinnamon and vanilla enhance it and not everyone can eat or even likes nuts.

What's your reaction?
