Bananas foster is made by cooking sliced bananas and walnuts in a buttery rum sauce and serving it over vanilla ice cream.
INGREDIENTS
- ¼ cup butter
- ⅔ cup dark brown sugar
- 3 ½ tablespoons rum
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract (optional)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 3 bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise and crosswise
- ¼ cup coarsely chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1 pint vanilla ice cream
DIRECTIONS
- Melt butter in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, rum, vanilla, and cinnamon; bring to a low boil.
- Place bananas and walnuts in the pan. Cook until bananas have softened, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve at once over vanilla ice cream.
NOTES
- Be sure to have everything ready and around the pan. Making this goes by so quick you don't have time to grab and measure anything. Have it ready when you start.
- Technically you only need 4 ingredients to make this BUT the cinnamon and vanilla enhance it and not everyone can eat or even likes nuts.
