Hot Water Cornbread
Hot Water Cornbread is a delicious and simple cornbread recipe that yields a delicious crunchy cornbread using a simple pouring method.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups Yellow Cornmeal
  • 2 tsp Granulated Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 2/3 - 2 cups Boiling Water
  • Vegetable Oil for frying

DIRECTIONS

  1. Gather all ingredients.
  2. Combine cornmeal, salt, and sugar in a medium bowl. Add boiling water and stir until a thick paste.
  3. Pour oil to a depth of 1/2-inch in a large skillet; heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  4. While heating; shape cornmeal mixture into 12 flattened balls using a heaping tablespoon as a measuring guide.
  5. Fry, turning once, in hot oil until crisp and golden brown, about 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.

NOTES

  • You could add 1 tablespoon bacon grease into the mixture for added flavor.  Just make sure it is all melted before making your patties.
