This easy homemade French Onion Dip recipe is made with onion soup mix, plus some flavorful add-ins. Pair it with salty potato chips!

There are two version here.  The first is the "kicked up" version using a handful of ingredients.  The second is the simplest version!  Using only TWO ingredients.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt*)
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 package (1.4oz) French onion soup mix (I use the low-sodium version)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions divided

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix. In a medium bowl, stir together the sour cream, mayonnaise, French onion soup mix, onion powder, minced garlic, and half of the green onion together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Chill. For the best results, cover and chill for 1 hour.
  3. Garnish. With remaining chopped green onion.
  4. Serve and enjoy with your favorite chips, veggies, and more!

Now that you have seen that easy and quick recipe.  Let's check out the easiest possible recipe!  Using two ingredients.

  • 2 cups sour cream (One 16oz container)
  • 1 package (1.4oz) French onion soup mix

TIPS:

  • They make their dips in several flavors (vegetable, herb and garlic, et al).  They all work the same.  One packet to 16oz sour cream.
  • For a bit of a "kick" you could add a tablespoon of horseradish.  Maybe start with 1 teaspoon and add additional slowly to your liking.
  • When making a dip using Lipton soup mix, most recipes recommend adding around 1-2 cloves of minced fresh garlic or 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder per packet of soup mix, depending on how strong you want the garlic flavor to be.
