Our obsession with supplements has reached $30 billion a year. And the top of that list? Multivitamins.

You should try to get all of your nutrients from your kitchen but that isn't always possible.  For starters, a daily multivitamin can help provide a good foundation for your health. It can also protect you when you’re experiencing stresssleeping poorly, or not getting regular exercise. Even with a “perfect” diet, these issues can make it tough for your body to properly absorb the nutrients.  But with so many combos what should you have at the very least in your multivitamin.  Well, here is a list of the 7 essentials.

  1. Vitamin D
  2. Magnesium
  3. Calcium
  4. Zinc
  5. Iron
  6. Folate
  7. Vitamin B-12

Of course depending on your body you may need more or less of something OR not even be able to take something. For instance, depending on the vitamin; Zinc has the tendency to make me nauseous.  I also need Magnesium and Potasssium for my heart.  So while you should be taking a multivitamin be sure to talk to your doctor.  My doctor occasionally gives me a blood test to check the levels of everything.  A baseline if you will.
