This simple 2-ingredient flatbread can be made with just flour and water (plus a pinch of salt if desired) to create a rustic, unleavened bread similar to roti or chapati. It requires no yeast, is cooked in a hot skillet, and is ready in under an hour.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup water (hot/boiling water is recommended for a softer, more pliable dough)
- Optional: A pinch of salt for flavor
DIRECTIONS
- Mix: Combine the flour and water in a bowl until a shaggy dough forms. (add salt as well if desired) until smooth.
- Rest: Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 15–30 minutes to allow the gluten to relax.
- Shape: Divide into 4–6 equal pieces and roll into thin circles (approx. 1/8 inch thick).
- Cook: Cook in a hot, dry skillet over medium-high heat for 30–60 seconds per side, until bubbly and slightly charred.
