Released on June 13, the track serves as the luminous lead single for her upcoming album of the same name, slated for release this September.
With a sound that blends shimmering trance-pop, pulsing house beats, and a dreamy Y2K gloss, “Midnight Sun” feels both nostalgic and fresh. Co-written with MNEK, Margo XS, Zhone, and Helena Gao, the song layers euphoric production over lyrics that explore joy, freedom, and fleeting moments of intimacy. It’s an emotional rush wrapped in dancefloor sparkle.
The music video, directed by Charlotte Rutherford, turns up the heat with a chaotic, colorful collage of cheerleaders, dolphins, and mud fights—leaning into hyperreal visuals that echo early-2000s teen fever dreams. It’s playful, wild, and brimming with summer fantasy.
Zara describes the track as a love letter to the endless days and electric feelings of Swedish summers, tying personal memories to universal emotions. “It’s a celebration of life that never ends,” she said in a recent interview, hinting at a more intimate, matured side of her artistry.
Ahead of her headlining European tour this fall, Zara will join Tate McRae on a North American arena run this August. If “Midnight Sun” is any indication, Zara Larsson is entering her most radiant era yet—bold, nostalgic, and utterly unstoppable.
