What’s really inside Nosferatu’s castle? High above the Orava River in northern Slovakia stands Orava Castle — the real medieval fortress used as Count Orlok’s lair in the 1922 silent horror film Nosferatu. Built in the 13th century after the Mongol invasions under King Béla IV of Hungary, this cliffside stronghold features 154 rooms, fortified towers, defensive bastions, and a network of underground tunnels carved directly into the rock.
