The Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True (1995)
In a spectacular blend of Broadway brilliance and Hollywood heart, The Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True aired in 1995 as a one-night-only benefit performance at Lincoln Center.

This televised event reimagined the classic 1939 film with a dazzling all-star cast that included Jewel as Dorothy, Jackson Browne as the Scarecrow, Roger Daltrey as the Tin Man, and Nathan Lane stealing scenes as the Cowardly Lion. The legendary Debra Winger played the Wicked Witch of the West, while Joel Grey appeared as the Wizard himself.

Backed by the Boys Choir of Harlem and the American Theater Orchestra, this version kept Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg’s iconic score front and center, with a few modern twists and heartfelt interpretations. The concert was a benefit for the Children's Defense Fund, and while it aired on TNT, it was never commercially released, making surviving recordings prized by fans.

A kaleidoscope of pop, rock, and theater talent, Dreams Come True wasn't just a nostalgic journey down the yellow brick road—it was a tribute to the enduring magic of Oz, reimagined for a new generation of dreamers.
