With its roots in vaudeville and burlesque, ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN premiered as a special in 1967 and was so well-received, it became a series in 1968 that ran for 140 episodes until 1973.
Producer George Schlatter's quick gags and rapid fire editing style paired with political jabs and risque humor to make LAUGH-IN the most popular show on television. A revival of the show was attempted in 1978 with the NEW LAUGH-IN and series regular Robin Williams, but it only lasted one season.
