La Maison ensorcelée is a 1908 film by Segundo de Chomón.

It was produced by Pathé in 1907 and it was released in theaters in January 1908. It should not be confused with La Maison hantée made by De Chomón in 1906 and also produced by Pathé.

These two films are very similar in content: they are remake of Balckton's The Hauted House (1906). The "haunted house" theme was very popular from Méliès onwards, in particular by authors who were very interested in special effects and stage tricks (such as De Chomon or Blackton); a haunted house was the ideal setting to show off them.

As they walk through a forest, two men and a woman are surprised by a thunderstorm, but they find shelter in an old house which, for a moment, appears to become a giant face. As soon as they enter the house, their suitcases come to life and leave the house, a painting in the living room comes alive and a sprite appears, the chairs appear and disappear as they please, the overcoats rise from the ground and go away and, finally, a ghost appears.

When the calm returns, the guests hope to be able to eat something and set the table (2:25): the objects and dishes move by themselves, preparing to be served. When the travelers are about to eat their meal, however, the set table disappears and they go to sleep without dinner; the men give the bed to the lady, they're going sleep on the floor. At this moment the house begins to rock, letting the bed and the two men be tossed from one side of the house to the other.

Finally, dancing flames appear, forcing the three to take refuge under the blankets of the bed. (5:47) The sprite appears again, he lifts the guests into the blanket and he is about to devour them, but suddenly he disappears and the three travelers find themselves on the trunk of a tree in the middle of the forest.
