Long before hits like "I'm Outta Love," "Left Outside Alone," and "Sick and Tired" made her a global star, Anastacia took one of her first major steps toward fame as a contestant on MTV's The Cut in 1998. Although she did not win the competition, her powerful, soulful voice and unmistakable stage presence caught the attention of music industry executives.
That exposure led to a recording contract and, just two years later, the release of her debut album Not That Kind. While The Cut may not have crowned her champion, it proved to be the launching pad for one of pop music's most distinctive and successful voices.
Something worth noting. The winner of the season was Silk-E and the runnerup was Lil' Noah. Neither of which really went on to do much of anything while Anastacia still went on to become a global superstar. The two most successful talents to come out of this show were Ne-Yo (from the group Envy and went by the name Gogo before he went solo and became Ne-Yo) and Anastacia. They really took advantage of the show to launch their careers!
