While we have many items of clothing belonging to Queen Victoria, few clothes survive from the wardrobe of her husband, Prince Albert.
There is strong evidence to suggest that this dressing gown and shirt belonged to the Prince Consort. Victorian menswear is often thought to be dark coloured and sombre, but this colourful robe tells a different story. Items of clothing like this bring us closer to the people they belonged to, allowing us to imagine Albert and Victoria at home in a less formal setting.
