Teacher Builds Mentorship Program That Goes Beyond Classroom
After finding his calling in teaching and leading, Brandon Martin took his outreach beyond the classroom with Close Ties, a mentorship program that aims to turn kids in his community into leaders."I would teach from 9 to 5 and then I would reach from 5 to 9," he explains.

Martin, who now focuses full time on Close Ties, say it's important to him to give back to kids "because I want to be the person that I needed at that age." Martin joins TODAY’s Jenna Bush Hager and guest co-host Michelle Buteau to talk about the most rewarding part of helping boys fulfill their dream. Then, he's surprised by his former science teacher, Mr. Hairston, whom he credits with inspiring his career.
