How to Play 10,000
How to Play 10,000
The dice game 10,000 (also known as Ten Thousand, Farkle, or Greed) is a fun, fast-paced game played with six dice. Great form families and kids learning math. The goal is to be the first player to reach 10,000 points.

What You Need

  • 6 standard dice
  • A way to keep score (pen & paper or a scorekeeping app)
  • 2+ players

Scoring Rules

Only certain combinations score points:

✨ Single Dice:

  • 1 = 100 points
  • 5 = 50 points

🔥 Three of a Kind:

  • Three 1s = 1000 points
  • Three 2s = 200 points
  • Three 3s = 300 points
  • Three 4s = 400 points
  • Three 5s = 500 points
  • Three 6s = 600 points

💎 Special Combos (Optional Rules):

These vary by house rules, but some play with:

  • Four of a kind = Double the value of three of a kind
  • Five of a kind = Triple the value
  • Six of a kind = Automatic win or 3000+ points
  • Straight (1–6) = 1500 points
  • Three pairs = 1500 points
  • Two triplets = 2500 points

How to Play

1. Start Turn

  • Roll all 6 dice.

2. Set Aside Scoring Dice

  • Choose any scoring dice and set them aside.
  • You must set aside at least one scoring die to keep going.

3. Roll Remaining Dice

  • You can re-roll the rest of the dice to try for more points.
  • BUT, if you roll and get no scoring dice, you “farkle” and score zero for that turn.

4. Bank or Risk

  • After each roll, decide:

    • Bank your current score and end your turn.
    • Or keep rolling to build your total—at your own risk.

5. Hot Dice

  • If you use all 6 dice to score, you get “Hot Dice”—you can reroll all six again and keep going!

🎯 Winning the Game

  • Once a player hits 10,000 points, every other player gets one last turn.
  • The player with the highest final score wins!
