Chakalaka is a spicy South African relish or sauce made with vegetables, tomatoes, onions, and spices. It's often served with bread, pap, stews, or curries.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large onion (diced)
  • 1/2 green pepper (diced)
  • 2 tablespoons curry powder
  • 3 carrots grated
  • 2 large chopped tomatoes
  • 1 can baked beans
  • salt and pepper to taste + seasoning (we used garlic, bbq spice and herb seasoning)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat oil in a large pan
  2. Fry onion and green pepper
  3. Once onions are translucent, add curry powder and fry for a minute
  4. Add carrots and fry for a minute
  5. Stir in tomatoes and season with salt and pepper
  6. Cover pot with lid and allow to boil for 5 minutes
  7. Add 1 can baked beans and season with your seasoning, stir well
  8. Cover pan with lid and allow to simmer for 10 minutes
