Can you turn one bottle of cheap, store-bought apple juice into high-strength wine? We take on the challenge to make the STRONGEST alcohol possible with NO specialized homebrew equipment! We prove that by adding sugar to budget Aldi Apple Juice and using the incredible Lalvin EC-1118 yeast, you can create a potent, wine-strength brew of 18% ABV—all fermented right in the bottle!
INGREDIENTS
- 1 litre Aldi Apple juice (or whatever juice you'd like to try this with)
- 1 cup sugar (200g)
- 1/2 tsp Lalvin EC-1118 Wine Yeast
NOTE: The wine yeast will give you about 18% strength. You can also use plain store bought bread yeast which will make it slightly less potent at 13%-14%.
DIRECTIONS
- Pour out about 100ml (around 1 inch) of the juice.
- Using a funnel; slowly pour in the sugar.
- Put on the cap tightly and shake it about until all of the sugar is dissolved.
- Add in the 1/2 tsp yeast.
- Put the cover back on and GENTLY give it a swirl.
- Take the cover back off the bottle. Now put the cover back on but only give it a HALF TURN. Just enough so the gasses can pass through. The cap will be nice and loose. Gently squeeze the bottle to make sure.
- Put your bottle in a bowl and place it in a warm place for at least 5-7 days.
- You'll know it's ready once it becomes clear. It may take longer than 7 days (could be up to 10).
