Learn how to make DIY glitter ornaments + discover the very best glue to use. If you have a Cricut machine you can level it up even further!
Materials Needed
- Ornament (round or flat)
- Polycrylic clear gloss
- Glitter
- Reindeer name download
- Wire Cutters
- Glue
- Ribbon (optional)
- Cricut (optional)
- Solo cups
- Scissors
Directions
- Prepare the Ornament: Gently remove the metal cap and top hanger.
- Add Polycrylic: Using a syringe or dropper, squirt about a tablespoon (or 5-7 drops for smaller ornaments) of stirred polycrylic inside.
- Coat the Inside: Slowly rotate the ornament to ensure the entire inner surface, including the neck, is covered with a thin, even layer.
- Drain Excess: Turn the ornament upside down over a cup or egg carton to let the extra polycrylic drip out (you can reuse it).
- Add Glitter: Pour a generous amount of fine glitter into the ornament using a paper funnel.
- Shake to Coat: Cover the opening with a paper towel and shake or roll the ornament to distribute the glitter evenly over the polycrylic.
- Tap Out Excess: Tap out any loose, excess glitter.
- Dry: Place the ornament upside down in a cup or egg carton and let it dry completely (ideally overnight, or for at least 24 hours) before reattaching the cap.
Tips
- Gentle Stirring: Stir polycrylic gently to avoid creating too many air bubbles.
- Use a Fan: A floor fan can help speed up drying time.
- Extra Fine Glitter: Provides the best, most consistent coverage.
- Cricut: This little machine comes in handy when making the image and name stickers to put on the ornament.
