Chili's Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks
Chili's Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks
If you're a fan of Chili's and of everything "Nashville Hot" then you'll be in love with these. Using standard breading techniques this recipe is so simple!

INGREDIENTS

Vegetable Oil

Sliced Mozzarella Cheese

Bowl 1:

  • 1/2 - 1 Cup All-Propose Flour

Bowl 2:

  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 Tbsp Water

Bowl 3:

  • 1 Cups Plain Bread crumbs
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Pepper
  • 1 Tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tsp Paprika

Nashville Sauce:

  • 1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Chili Powder
  • 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • Tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 Tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt
  • 1/4 Tsp Pepper

DIRECTIONS

You'll need 4 bowls for this.

  1. Cut up your block of Mozzarella cheese.  You'll get around 8 chunks.
  2. Bowl 1:  Flour
  3. Bowl 2: Whisk together your eggs and water
  4. Bowl 3:  Whisk together your bread crums and seasonings
  5. Using the standard breading technique (flour, egg and breading) you can begin coating the mozzarella sticks. You might need to do the egg and breading a second time to make sure they are covered.
  6. Put them onto a tinfoil covered baking sheet.
  7. Once they are all covered place them in the freezer for 1 hour.
  8. Just before taking them out of the freezer put your oil in a pan and heat it up to 350ºF for frying.
  9. Once the oil is hot and ready you can remove them from the freezer and fry them 2-3 at a time. THIS FINAL PROCESS GOES QUICK!!
  10. Cook each one for about 1 minute (until crispy and golden brown).  Remember to flip them during this process so they cook evenly on both sides.
  11. As they finish cooking place them on a wire rack to dry. Turn off the oil immediately.  You'll be using it to coat.
  12. As they dry you can make your sauce. Use some of that frying oil for this.
  13. Bowl 4: Whisk together your olive oil (1/2 cup of that oil you used to fry) and seasonings.
  14. Coat each stick and place them back on the wire rack.  While they are on the wire rack they may lose some of the hot sauce.  Go ahead and use a brush and put some back on from what you have left over.
  15. Ready to eat! You can pair these with some reach or blue cheese.  Whatever your favorite dipping sauce is.
