The Staffordshire Hoard, the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork, was discovered in a field near the village of Hammerwich, England in 2009, containing over 3,500 martial artifacts dating back to the 7th or 8th centuries.
The discovery attracted worldwide attention and was described as the metalwork equivalent of finding a new Lindisfarne Gospels or Book of Kells, altering perceptions of Anglo-Saxon England. The hoard was valued at £3.285 (4.171 USD) million and was displayed at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and the British Museum.
