Agatha Christie: The Queen of Mystery and Timeless Crime Fiction
Agatha Christie: The Queen of Mystery and Timeless Crime Fiction
A short biography of Agatha Christie, the world’s bestselling mystery writer and creator of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

Agatha Christie (1890–1976) was a British novelist, playwright, and undisputed monarch of mystery. With razor-sharp plots and a magician’s sense of misdirection, she transformed the cozy drawing room into a crime scene and turned readers into willing suspects. Her books have sold more than two billion copies worldwide, making her one of the best-selling authors in human history.

Christie introduced two of fiction’s most beloved detectives: the fastidious Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot, with his little grey cells and perfectly waxed mustache, and the deceptively gentle village observer Miss Marple, who solved murders by understanding people better than they understood themselves. Her stories—often set in trains, country houses, or sun-drenched holiday spots—hide lethal secrets behind polite smiles.

Beyond novels, Christie conquered the stage. Her play The Mousetrap became the longest-running play in history, proving that audiences never tire of a good secret—or a perfectly timed twist. In 1971, she was named a Dame of the British Empire for her contributions to literature.

Agatha Christie didn’t just write mysteries. She taught the world how to read between the lines, mistrust the obvious, and savor the delicious moment when the truth finally steps into the light. A tidy sentence, a quiet teacup, a sudden gasp—case closed.
