The original Broadway production of Dreamgirls opened at the Imperial Theatre December 20, 1981. The musical played 10 previews and 1,521 performances before closing August 11, 1985, earning 13 Tony nominations and winning six.
"And I Am Telling You" was sung by the legendary Jennifer Holliday.
Since then it has been covered by Jennifer Hudson in the movie musical. Amber Riley in London's West End production.
There is also an unforgettable performance by a 16-year old named Sarah Ikumu on Britain's Got Talent in 2017.
