I saw them live at the International Gumbo Festival Sept. 20, 2014 at Jackson, MS. Sharde Thomas, grandaughter of fife and drum blues great Othar Turner, is touring with the band. She is a treasure. The playlist included most of the songs on this album. Been keeping up with these boys since their early years. Their father, the late great Jim Dickinson, a musician out of Memphis, would be proud. World Boogie is Coming. Go see it.

  • New age NMA

The album is okay, but I wish it was the old gritty NMA i am used to seeing. I guess that is what you get when you go to a fancy studio with Robert Plant. They made a living off of RL Burnside and this sounds nothing like the original NMA

Let me start off by saying that I LOVE the NMA. Luther is my favorite guitar player out there. That being said, this cd is disappointing to me. I just feel like the Allstars could have done better. There are some good elements here and there, but the majority of it just doesn't do much for me. There are quite a few tunes on this record that have already been done by them before. It's like they ran out of new ideas. And a lot of the new songs seem like they were thrown together really quick. This cd isn't horrible, but it's definitely not the best thing this band has ever done. I will say my favorites on the record are "JR","Goin' To Brownsville" and "I'm Leaving". "Shimmy" is good too, but if they were going to put some stuff on this cd that they have done before then they should have led into "Station Blues" out of "Shimmy".
  • A lot of music for $10...not their best CD, however.

Yes sir, iTunes definitely came through in customers' favor this time, what with all the bonus tracks...26 tracks total...for $9.99. Now that's more like it! :-) So many new iTunes albums are like $11.99, $12.99....when you can often get the CD for $9.99 (scratching my head there). As far as the content of this album is concerned, yep, there's some good stuff here. I tend to focus my attention on the er, NEW songs, thank you very much, not the songs that they've already recorded on previous CD's. WTH? I like the version of Meet Me In The City on Polaris better. Snake Drive...pretty cool, but the live versions to be had on multiple live albums are better, if you ask me. Anyway...Turn Up Satan is a standout track...great stuff! On par with the NMA material of yore. Hodown (bonus track) I really enjoyed. I do rejoice that the Dickinson bros. and company returned to their roots in Hill Country after their not-so-great "gospel" CD Keys To The Kingdom. However, the presentation of some of these songs on here sound kind of experimental and gimmicky, like the lo-fi vocal effect, which I think is used a little too much. Luther and Cody are great musicians, but they don't get much chance to strut their stuff with much cool jamming on this CD. Their instrumental prowess and songwriting are definitely their greatest strengths, but 1. again, not much jamming here, and 2. not many new original songs here, either. I like the appearances of the guest artists, particularly Robert Plant's ripping harp solo and the contributions of the Burnsides, but I myself prefer the gist of an NMA CD to be the Dickinsons and Chris Chew going to town with their magical interplay as demonsrated on their first two CD's and plenty of their live material, which thankfully is available for downloading. Compared to their early albums along with their live CD's Do It Like We Used To Do and Boulderado, I don't rate this CD anywhere nearly as high as those. But that's just me...I'm glad plenty of people are slapping a 5-star review on this album...enjoy!

It's rare to hear blues music cast with such art. These tunes rock from beginning to end - Be prepared to take a trip deep into the hill country - hill country of the 21st century! Great melding of traditional sounds with modern strokes.. Can't get enough of this!! The videos (especially Boogie) are outstanding as well. Enjoy!!
