NOT Vangelis !!!
Decent Replica, but...

Whatever energy went in to creating this replica (a decent effort) should instead have been put into getting the original officially released. I bought one of the originals on ebay for $90 back in the 1990s...it's the most money I ever spent on music (by over 4 x), but it was worth it. This soundtrack and the fiddle playing, and the Tahitian drumming are a masterpiece. The tone in this replica is close, but the difference makes all the difference in the world. Plus, the original ending track is really 3 movements and about 23:00 long. Find an original on ebay, it will be worth it.
Not Vangelis

Despite what the iTunes credits list, Vangelis does not play on this record and it is a lukewarm recreation of the original.
A Fair Facimile

This album is composed of recorded must from the 1984 film, The Bounty. The original music by Vangelis is largely unreleased. The opening and closing titles can be found on his Themes album, but otherwise are relegated to obscure bootleg releases. In lieu of the missing tracks, this is a fair substitute. It achieves the correct sound, even if it feels a bit less alive. It was a courious choice to include a version of a song that is barely heard in the movie over the very prominent The Water is Wide, but otherwise and excellent effort. I highly recommend this to anyone dying to hear this soundtrack. It is worth the purchase and gives a good sample of what a release of the official soundtrack might be like.
