Hubert Laws is stunning. He and Rampal are the best ever.....
  • Good Tribute to Bolling/Rampal

This is a more mellow version, with similar cover artwork of an album from many years ago. It was one of several collaborations between Claude Bolling and Jean-Pierre Rampal, which is one of my faves. This take on their album is ok, but not innovative enough to buy.
  • Where's the credit to Claude Bolling?

This is Claude Bolling's genius composition -- its classic original recording featuring Bolling himself with Jean Pierre Rampal. I'm disappointed that the brilliant original hasn't been referenced here. However good this recording may be, do yourself a favor and get the original first, if it's not already in your music library.
  • Everyday I have a new favorite listening to the Suite

It is difficult or tricky to pick just one. Each listen makes me stop and think. Man, I love this. This is a well thought out remake of a classic that has a lot of layers going on in a pure, analog form. The addition of the string quartet provides warmth and intimacy. Moreover, the orchestra hits just right. The wizardry and adaptability of Jeff Biegel and Hubert Laws shines bright and it flows seamlessly. Steve Barta knocked it out of the park with this. A must own.
  • Clockwork

There’s so much going on here but it’s all done so neatly and well, it’s clockwork. Drums and piano are excellent in tandem on BAROQUE & BLUE as the flute takes centre stage. A spirited feeling gets you when FUGACE plays out some brilliant phrasing. VELOCE and VERSATILE are excellent tracks too with flute and piano sharing top honours. Breathtaking arrangements, such remarkable work - compelling textures and colors, what a treat!
  • A Fine Symphonic Work by a Versatile and Experienced Arranger

Here is a fine symphonic work by a versatile and experienced arranger. Steve Barta has been contributing to the world of music for many years. And his works include fourteen recordings that reflect his many influences, particularly Brazilian, Jazz and Classical. This album showcases his excellent arrangement skills and experience, and creates a fun and moving assortment of tunes that can add joy to a weekend of listening. I particularly enjoyed the track "Sentimentale" with its soft and graceful transitions. Well done.
