INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup Baking Soda
- 1/4 cup Citric Acid (You can purchase at most speciality food or ethnic grocery stores or online)
- 1/4 cup Cornstarch
- 1/4 cup Epsom Salt (or sea salt)
- 3 tsp Castor Oil (or any vegetable oil)
- 1 tsp Essential Oil
- Soap or Food Coloring
- 1 tbsp Water (this amount can vary slightly depending on the humidity level where you live)
DIRECTIONS
- Add dry ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir together until mixed.
- Slowly pour in castor oil.
- Add in the drops of essential oil.
- Stir this mixture together well, removing as many clumps as possible.
- The mixture will appear dry, but should stick together if you pick it up and squeeze it together.
- If you want multiple colors of bath bombs, divide the mixture into several smaller bowls before adding the color.
- Add coloring of choice to the bowl and mix well until no white remains.
- The more you add, the more vibrant the color of the bath bomb.
- Spoon the mixture into one half of the mold. You can use one color, or several. Use the back of a spoon or your fingers to press the mixture into the mold.
- When the mold is full, press down on the mixture to pack it in tight.
- Add another scoop on top of the packed mixture so that it's heaping out over the mold (don't pack it down).
- Repeat with second half of mold.
- Press the halves of the mold together carefully. Turn each half back and forth slightly while firmly pressing them together, allowing any extra mixture to fall out.
- Let it set overnight OR pop it in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
- When ready, carefully pull the molds apart. If the bath bomb isn't coming out easily, gently tap the outside of the mold.
- Unmold the second half of the bath bomb in the same way.
- Your homemade bath bomb is complete!
EQUIPMENT
- Soap Molds (you can find at any craft store)
- Plastic Ornament Mold (I bought at Joanne’s Fabric individually for $2, you can also buy online)
- Plastic Easter Egg
All of these items you can get at your local craft store. It just depends on the time of year.
TIP: Rather than just filling the mold you could layer multiple colors. Make several colors at once and layer them on top of each other.
