He isnt still alive, good ol' Roy Brown is the greatest 30s and 40s musician in my opinion from Butcher Pete to Rockin' at Midnight he is still awesome (Kind of funny I heard 2 or 3 of songs are in the new Fallout game.)

Rock and Roll begins right here. Roy Brown cut "Good Rockin' Tonight" in 1948, and Elvis Presley covered it in 1954 because he knew it was it was THE song. (Actually, Wynonie Harris also covered in in 1949 and got a hit).
